Army of Me
31” x 37” each, acrylic on birch panel, available at Maison Depoivre Gallery, Prince Edward County
These paintings depict a little marching army, coming into view at the top, exiting the frame at the bottom. The figures in the first painting (orange background), were recombined into an infinite pattern in the second painting. All the figures are depicted in isometric proportion against a cubed rhombus pattern. Working in tandem allows a conversation and interplay between the two images.
There is a raucous, frenetic energy in wind-up figures. Shiny, sharp edges and bright colours. Jumping, squeaking, eating, or waddling, they draw us in as we project human qualities on them.
'Isn't life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?' - Andy Warhol
