High Alert

I worked on this cover for the OPC Register last month, about the lingering effects of a traumatic events in our schools. Given the events following the shooting at Marjory Douglas Stoneman high school in Florida, it feels even more relevant than ever. Our students deserve a safe environment for learning. These events overshadow and eclipse the day to day routines and focus that is required for our children to achieve success.

I worked on an assignment in 2013 for Phoenix magazine about the devastating effects of guns and gun violence in schools. I never would have imagined anyone advocating teachers to be carrying weapons and using them in a classroom situation.

I hope that the passion and debate about the rightful place of guns can affect positive change.

Covering your Assets

I could really use this technology. I lose my keys all the time. RFID tracking allows manufacturers and businesses to locate and track their assets during the manufacturing process, in transit and in storage or inventory.

I decided to keep things simple in this illustration, showing location in different context through the supply chain. I used an isometric perspective so that the message wouldn't get lost in the details. I have worked with art diretor Roy Comiskey on a number of tech-related articles, and I always enjoy the challenge of bringing new elements to the work.

Here's the piece in the final layout.
